1. I finally finished my commissioned painting of Las Vegas!  This took far longer, and was far more difficult than I imagined it would be.  Anyone who knows my work knows that this is not the type of thing I usually do, and so my attitude to it would swing from one day to the next. I’d be frustrated with myself for making the decision to make the painting in this way, and how I wasn’t pushing my work forward in a way I want it to go, to telling myself to grow up, stop being so high minded, and be happy I doing the job properly to the brief I was given. This was obviously the most important thing to think about, and not my own, probably pretty pretentious ideas.  Although this painting doesn’t explore any of the concepts or ways of using paint that I was interested in at university, It has been a massive learning experience for me technically and has re-invigorated my desire to get back into it properly.  All positive things!

In the end I’m really pleased with it.  The boys all seem to be really happy and say they love it, which was where most of my apprehension probably lay!! Putting months worth of work into something like this, and waiting for the moment where they give their reactions was pretty stressful, but rewarding.

  2. Just did a bit of sign writing/drawing for my pub garden!

  4. A fence door I painted that was used in the set of Carmen at the Epsom Playhouse last week.  Unfortunately I didn’t get to see it, but apparently it was lit up really nicely during the performance!  I can’t wait to see the official photographs.

  5. I can nearly feel the end of the painting coming,  so close!  Never have I worked on the same thing for so long…  I have so much I want to do once its finally finished.  Firstly make some grey paintings.  I’m really yearning for grey after this.

  6. I really have no desire to finish his hands.  I hate hands.  Can’t wait for Sunday when i’ll be able to put up some photos of something i’ve been working on recently…  The opera, Carmen which opens at the Epsom Playhouse tonight!

  7. I know this is pretty lame, but I haven’t put anything up in a while..  I drew on the blackboard at the pub where I work today for the Sunday roast.  Highlight of my day!  More excitingly, i’m about to start work on the scenic painting for Mansfield Park, a small opera which will show in Highgate in April.  Will be so nice to have things i’ve made on show to an audience, other than to just people dining.
