Feeling very un-fabulous while painting this and listening to Richard Hawley love songs on the radio… Now gotta take my dog for a walk as he ate a whole tin of brownies this morning and we can’t have him shitting all over the sofa. Miss you
I’ve been doing the scenic painting for my old school’s production of Les Mis over the past couple of weeks. Its been really great experience and i’ve been able to put loads of the things I learnt on my course into practice. Pretty proud of those fake bricks!!
This is what i’ve done on the 2nd week of my scenic painting course. We had to choose a drawing and scale it up to fit a 1.8m high cloth. I painted this using layers of really thin paint mixed with glaze. It was a massive challenge, as we had to copy the exact pencil marks the artist had made, without letting in any of our own individual markmaking.
Pitted rusty metal surface and a slate floor, both made from MDF and paint!
For the past couple of months i’ve been doing a short course in theatre design. Tomorrow’s the last day and i’ve made this prototype model box to present to the class. The play we were working on was Wendy Kesselman’s ‘My Sister in This House’, which is about the gruesome early 20th century murder of a woman and her daughter by their two maids, Lea and Christine Papin. The sisters existed in a strange, introverted world of madness where they shunned outside communication and as time went on Christine’s dominant personality engulfed Leas. I’ve tried to depict their bedroom haven, where on the eventual night of the murders they were found by the police, naked in bed together, embracing.
